State-of-the-art appliances these days are dressed to impressed. With an art-like inspiration and versatile usability, you have all the options to choose new home appliances that are powerful yet sleek.
To get you started on your appliance hunt, here are a few things to consider in your selection and buying process!
Set Your Budget
Okay so we know starting any project starts here, but we thought it worth mentioning that by determining your budget right away you will be able to instantly narrow down your search. Make sure to consider all appliances and their accessories when determining your budget, for example, don’t forget a stove hood when thinking about a new stove!
Measure Your Spaces
You can also narrow down your starting point by figuring out the sizes of your spaces for each appliance.
Be sure to take measurements of the space where the appliance will sit and compare it to the appliance’s size width, height, and depth. Make sure to include the doors of the appliance itself, including doors for fridges, washers, dryers, ovens, etc! It also doesn’t hurt to measure the doors inside your home.
Think About the Finishes
One thing to think about is the overall color and look of your appliances. Do you like:
- Stainless Steel
- White
- Black
- Colored
- Camouflaged beneath cabinet panels
Are you looking to have all of your appliances match with the same finish? These are some things you will want to consider during your search.
Read Reviews & Ask for Recommendations
When it comes to appliance shopping, it’s important not to rely on looks and features alone. Pay attention to the reviews and complaints about an appliance before purchasing. Our team has valuable insight to help you with making the right choices for your family and lifestyle as well. We’ve also gotten feedback from our previous clients on their home purchases!
Also, be sure to ask about the decibel number of your dishwasher before bringing into your new space. Dishwasher noise levels are rated in decibels, the lower the decibel the quieter your dishwasher will be!
Ask the Designer
Lindsey Swanson
Q: What kitchen appliance brands do you regularly select in your new construction homes?
A: It is dependent on the client’s budget and needs, but we select a lot of Thermador, Subzero/Wolf, Miele and have started seeing a bit more of Signature’s line.
Q: What is one appliance that your clients are the most particular about?
A: Fridge/Freezer and Oven/Range are the most focused on, generally.
Q: Do you have a fun appliance shopping tip you usually recommend to your clients?
A: Check to see how long it takes to preheat your current oven to 350 degrees, if you are ok with that timing, maybe selecting a new appliance with a similar warm-up time is a good route. Also, there are some new “smart” appliances and if that is something that is of importance to you, ask about them.
A Few Last Things to Ask Yourself Before Purchase
Do you want all of your appliances to be the same brand?
Do you prefer gas or electric stovetop when cooking?
Do you really need/want all of those additional features? There’s no need to pay extra for settings if you won’t actually use them!
What is the appliance warranty - read the fine print before purchase.
