Designing a Luxury Lower Level
A Space for Entertaining, Function, and Beauty
Designing a "next level” lower level is all about creating a multi-purpose space customized to your lifestyle. We want this part of your home to not only be distinctly designed but actually utilized!
First, we start by considering your family’s interests, hobbies, and entertainment needs to conceptualize a space you will all enjoy together. Here are some Luxury Lower Level Features to Consider:
Media Lounge
Every lower level needs a spot to kick back and relax. Media lounges are a luxury way to get comfortable. This area often includes a comfy seating area, built-in shelving, a media console, a coffee table, and of course space for a TV.
Theater
Are you a huge movie buff? A movie theater is always an exciting addition to your dream lower level. Set up for an in-house cinema should include comfy recliners or a deep sofa, warm tones for low-lighting, and a big LED or projector screen-- don’t forget a killer sound system!
Bar Area
Including a bar in your lower level is obviously great for entertaining, but these spots can also be exceedingly functional! Incorporating a mini-kitchen to your bar -- mini-fridge, sink and/or dishwasher, and a microwave oven can also be ideal for your guests’ needs if you are adding a guest suite to your lower level.
There are countless styles and features to consider for these social and interactive spaces. We suggest having some fun with it! We love adding open shelving to display a variety of shapes and colors of cocktail mixers and liquors.
Add stone or bricks, a fun backsplash or wallpaper, make it memorable with shelving filled with antiques or memorabilia. Your bar should also include barstools, lighting - we love pendant lights- and shelving for your glassware.
Wine Display
Wine displays are a chic way to show off your collection! Our personal favorite is a glass-enclosed wine display for an elevated wine storage look.
Gaming & Entertainment
We’ve been asked to design some amazing setups for entertaining kids and adults alike. A spacious game area can include anything from a pool table, shuffleboard, darts, or ping pong! Adding art or sports memorabilia is an excellent way to keep this area exciting.
Athletic Court
Sports fans and kids equally love the addition of an athletic court to the lower level. These are also key if you often find yourself entertaining a group of kids in the middle of a Minnesota winter!
We’ve designed some amazing athletic courts with upgrades like authentic stadium-grade wood flooring, the latest technology with workout machines, and even a fun disco ball. The accessories for these spaces are endless!
All The Storage
Maybe a little less glamorous, but a luxury lower level isn’t complete without that added catchall space for everything. We make sure that we plan your lower level to have attractive, well-designed accessible storage as well.
